Christina Mathis won her 2nd ITF G5 tournament last week when beating Viktoriya Lavrentyeva of Russia 64, 75 in the final of GD Tennis Cup 2009 in Turkey. This was her first singles title with the MCTA and especially pleasing after a challenging week before when her confidence was low. All credit must go to Jim and Roxanne for working hard and pulling her round so effectively. Hopefully Christina learns from this experience that tennis has to be her number one focus and its best to limit distractions to a minimum.

Anna Fitzpatrick also had a challenging first week but winning the doubles, her second 10K title in a month, is promising for her future as she gains strength in her comeback after 7 months out of tennis. She also won a credible singles match and lost a close second round so the rust is clearing in singles and now the focus will be on her next tour in Indonesia where she and Stefi Boffa will both play a series of four tournaments.

Stefi Boffa, who reached a new career high in doubles this week (207) had a reasonable week in the Tourhoudt 100K, reaching the quarter final in doubles and the 2nd round qualifying in singles. Our target is to return from Indonesia with a top 300 singles ranking. “I believe Stefi is close to a good result in a challenger which will lift her into the top 300. The signs are all there of a player on a mission to succeed” says coach Sammel.

Christina will play a number of ITF’s in an attempt to be top 150 by Wimbledon entry deadline which will give her entry into the qualifying for the junior event. Turkey was a good start.
