Cowan to be Ambassador for MCTA Print E-mail

Former top British pro Barry Cowan has agreed to be an Ambassador for MCTA.

Best known for taking Pete Sampras to five sets in the 2001 Wimbledon Championships, Cowan now works as commentator and analyst for Sky Sports. As an Ambassador Cowan will work to build and promote the MCTA brand through his extensive contacts in tennis whilst passing on his experience and expertise to MCTA players through analysis and coaching.

Stefania Boffa joins MCTA programme Print E-mail

Stefy BoffaSwiss No 5 female tennis player Stefania Boffa has joined the Academy on a consultancy basis. In a recent trip to the USA she impressed the coaches and trainers with her work ethic and enthusiasm to improve.

David Sammel, Director of Tennis, said: “We remodelled her serve and I was impressed with how fast she adapted and how well she took to becoming much more aggressive with her forehand.

Fitzpatrick Wins LTA Award Print E-mail

Anna Fitzpatrick has been named as the Lawn Tennis Association’s Female Junior Player of the Year in recognition of her outstanding results in 2007.

The 18-year-old from Sheffield, who captured the public’s imagination by reaching the semifinals of the Junior Wimbledon Championships in June, received more than 50% of the online votes on the LTA web site – a clear margin of more than 30 percent over fellow nominees Laura Robson, Jessica Ren and Jennifer Ren.

Monte Carlo Tennis Academy Physical Conditioner Jez Green is to act as a fitness consultant to Britain’s Andy Murray.

The following press release today appeared on Murray’s official website:

Andy says he’s in no rush to appoint a new coach after splitting with Brad Gilbert, but has moved to add the services of a couple of other guys to help him get ‘fitter and stronger.’
